These elegant antique side chairs are made from ELM wood, originated from Shanxi Province in North of China. The dimension is :58x45x98cm. The once darker colour has worn or been stripped back to show the paler wood below, although there are still traces of the lacquer on the legs. The chairs have the distinctive, curved 'yoke' shaped crest rails that are so familiar in Chinese design, but unusually the back splats are made up of five rounded stiles rather than a single, wider flat support. The legs of each chair are supported with double braces at the side and a front footrest, while the front curved aprons beneath the seats each show a simple carved motif.

This simply designed table is in a style referred to in Chinese as a 'ta'. It would originally have been produced as a daybed, used for seating or reclining on during the day. In a modern home and with ample space it would make a stunning large coffee table. A simple statement piece that would add interest and impact to any interior.

This upright cabinet is in a quite unusual size - perfect perhaps as a drinks cabinet or for storage in a living area. It was made in solid China pine wood, the dimension is 90x40x120cm, ina distressed, blue green lacquer. The style, with the doors, and 5 removable shelves inside, is distinctive of Shanxi furniture. The removable shelves are fitted inside, dividing the interior into six sections. The bottom section,especially the legs, is decorated in beautiful carvings.

This light blue chair is made from solid reclaimed elm wood with a wooden seat. This style of chair was one of the first to appear in China, with pictorial records dating back to as early as the 6th century. The name 'Yoke-back' refers to the shape of the curved headrest, but the style is also known as an 'Official's Hat' chair as the headrest was also thought to resemble the winged hats of Chinese mandarins of the Ming dynasty. Our version has the same beautiful curves and detail as our yoke-back side chair.However it is slightly lower and has the beautifully curved, protruding armrests that are distinctive of this style.
